Crowborough Birthing Centre is a small unit, located adjacent to the Crowborough War Memorial Hospital*. It has 6 beds, is open 24 hours a day and is run by a dedicated team of experienced midwives.
The Centre offers complete ante-natal care, tests (with an ultrasound scanner available), parent education classes, as well as many birth choices. Birthing pools are available and the midwives are sympathetic to alternative therapies such as acupuncture and aromatherapy.

Personal Care in a "Home from Home" Environment
The 'home from home' environment of the Crowborough Birthing Centre, consists of 6 postnatal beds, which are bright and welcoming, and offer the chance to relax after the birth. Women can decide the length of their stay with the midwives who will offer full-time, individual and professional support following the birth.
The centre welcomes women who are becoming mothers for the first time, as well as those who are looking for a different approach from that which they may have previously experienced.
If you choose to have a water birth, you can use the centre's specially installed birthing pools.
What happens if there are complications
Most babies arrive in this world without complications, but sometimes unexpected problems occur during the pregnancy or labour. During pregnancy the Centre can refer you to its consultant who holds clinics at the Centre on a regular basis.
The consultant is available to discuss problems; you can also be referred back to the Centre of initial booking if this is more suitable.
During labour, if a transfer becomes necessary, in a non-urgent situation mothers may be transferred to a unit of their choice. If the situation is urgent you will be transferred to the nearest obstetric unit.
