Trauma and Orthopaedics

There has been a significant reconfiguration of the Trauma & Orthopaedic services within the Trust, in the last year. This has led to single siting of trauma services within the Trust. Elective orthopaedics continues on both sites. Trainees can therefore expect concentrated trauma training on one site and high quality elective training on both sites.

Clinical Work and Support

You will be supported during your four month rotation in Trauma and Orthopaedics by a dedicated Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, your Programme Lead, allocated Educational Supervisor and Clinical Supervisor. They will give you regular constructive feedback on your progress and what you can do to improve. This will better enable you to deliver core competencies from the Trauma and Orthopaedic curriculum and you will also benefit from exposure to out patient clinics and operating theatres

Trainee progress is reviewed by eportfolio, requiring the trainee to complete set modules by way of:

  • Observation
  • Direct supervision
  • Independent practice
  • Attendance at relevant training courses and events

The individual trainee completes there individual eportfolio which is monitored by the department in collaboration with our Medical Education Team, to ensure you continue to meet your training objectives and obtain the best outcome
