Urology – Clinical Work and Support

You will be supported during your four month rotation in Urology by a dedicated consultant urologist, your programme lead, an allocated educational supervisor and clinical supervisors. All of whom will give you regular constructive feedback on your progress and what you can do to improve. This will better enable you to deliver core competencies from the surgical curriculum.

Trainee progress is reviewed via Eportfolio, requiring the trainee to complete set modules by way of:

  • Observation
  • Direct supervision
  • Independent practice
  • Attendance at relevant training courses and events

The individual trainee completes their individual EPortfolio which is monitored by the department in collaboration with our medical education team, to ensure you continue to meet your training objectives and achieve the best outcome.

Mr Paul Rouse - LAS ST7 Urology

I have been working at Eastbourne District General Hospital since March 2014. This has been a rewarding experience. I have had the opportunity to work with a well renowned, supportive Urology Team. Of particular note, this is the regional cancer centre. I have gained good experience in managing urological cancers, while maintaining my skills in general urology. I would highly recommend anyone to work in the department.

Mr Ian Rudd - ST3 Urology

I’ve been working with James Moore in the Urology Department at Eastbourne for 11 months as an ST3 Trainee Registrar. It’s a well organised and enjoyable place to work. I would recommend it to any trainee in their early years or with an interest in female urology. The department would also suit anyone with a sub-specialist interest in stone, pelvic oncology or upper tract surgery.

Urology Research

Eastbourne has one of the most innovative urology units in the UK and is actively involved in research in the following areas:

  • Surgical treatment of post prostatectomy incontinence
  • Mesh free continence surgery
  • LUTS pharmacotherapy
  • Ultramini PCNL
  • Minimally invasive cystectomy
  • National uro-oncology trails (STAMPEDE. PATCH etc)
