Clinical Work and Support

You will be supported during your four month rotation in Emergency Medicine by a dedicated Emergency Medicine Consultant, your programme lead, an allocated educational supervisor and clinical supervisors. All of whom will give you regular constructive feedback on your progress and what you can do to improve. This will better enable you to deliver core competencies from the Emergency Medicine curriculum.

Trainee progress is reviewed via eportfolio, requiring the trainee to complete set modules by way of:

  • Observation
  • Direct supervison
  • Independent practice
  • Attendance at relevant training courses and events

The individual trainee completes their eportfolio, which is monitored by the department in collaboration with our medical education team, to ensure you continue to meet your training objectives and achieve the best outcome.

‘Since working in the Emergency Department at the Eastbourne DGH, I have gained a lot of experience in a very short amount of time. The environment is fast paced and the turnaround is quick, which has helped me to develop better time management skills and confidence. I have also learnt a lot of practical skills, such as suturing. The team are great and very supportive’

James Sidebotham – FY2 trainee
