Organised by a patient of the unit, the ‘BreastStroke Challenge’ sponsored swim was held at The Freedom Leisure Sports Centre in Rye. A happy and healthy few hours were spent swimming half, three quarters or a full mile by the participants who rose to the challenge.

Miss Elizabeth Shah, Consultant Breast Surgeon, said: “We are very grateful to all the swimmers who took part in the sponsored swim. The BreastStroke Challenge was an inspired way to raise money for our unit and, on behalf of my entire team, I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who took part in the fundraising and organisation of this successful event.

“The money will be put towards the purchase of specialised equipment for the treatment of our patients and will also aid research we are doing in the unit on outcomes and long-term wellbeing of patients.”
The fundraising patient said: “As a very grateful, recovering patient of the Conquest Hospital, I was given a special opportunity by Rye Sports Centre and in particular, Freya, who has worked so hard to organise this fundraising event, to try and pay something back to the hospital’s Breast Care Unit.
“I have received incredible care from Miss Shah, my Consultant and Surgeon, and my Macmillan Breast Care Nurse, Louise, plus all the other amazing Angels with whom I have come into contact with during my treatment. The level of care has been so high, and will continue for some time to come.”
