Dr McGowan divided her time between working as a Consultant Anaesthetist and a Pain Management Consultant during her career. She retired from her Consultant Anaesthetist post last year but has continued her work in Pain Management, from which she is also now retiring.

Dr McGowan arrived in Eastbourne in 1984 to finish her training. After meeting Dr Joan Hester, who ran the first pain clinic in the town, Dr McGowan was asked if she’d like to be involved in the work. She became a consultant in 1989.

Her plans for retirement include visiting family, spending more time with her grandchild and taking up classes in sketching and singing.

Dr McGowan said: “I have been privileged to work alongside excellent colleagues throughout my time in Eastbourne. I would like to thank them all and wish them the very best for the future.”
