Celebrations have taken place to mark the 20th anniversary of the Hydrotherapy pool at Conquest Hospital having opened in 1996.
The physiotherapy department marked the event with hydrotherapy demonstrations followed by a celebratory lunch for staff, patients and the Trust Board. The pool offers 34 sessions of hydrotherapy per week to provide the service to the widest spread of patients possible.
Nearly 200 new patients are seen each year in the hydrotherapy department which also has a pool at Eastbourne DGH plus referrals from other agencies. Hydrotherapy accounts for 17% or 1 in 5 of all our Conquest patient physiotherapy contacts. This includes both MSK and neurology.
Hydrotherapy involves the use of water for pain relief and treatment. It takes advantage of the physical properties of water, such as temperature and pressure, for therapeutic purposes, to stimulate blood circulation and treat the symptoms of certain diseases. The hydrotherapy team treat a wide variety of conditions including multi traumas, spinal cord injuries, arthritis and adult learning difficulties.
