The Special Care Dental Service took delivery of a specialist multifunctional chair to help them anaesthetise patients with special needs prior to their dental procedure. The chair, along with two wheelchairs, was kindly donated by the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital.
Dr Leona Toner, Clinical Lead for the Special Care Dental Service said “We are extremely grateful to the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital for their donation of this equipment. The chair is ideal for helping to anaesthetise patients with special needs since many find it intimidating to lie down and go to sleep in an unusual environment. The chair has the advantage of being easily manoeuvred into different positions and the detachable sides of the chair help to minimise moving and handling issues for theatre staff.”
The Special Care Dental Service treats patients with special needs and those who have difficulty accessing general dental services.
Harry Walmsley, Chairman of the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital said: “The Friends are pleased to be able to purchase this equipment for this specialist team at the hospital who care for patients with special needs. We are delighted the money we received from generous local donations, bequests and the hard work of our volunteers is benefiting local patients.”
