The “one stop” Swallow Disorder Clinic was recognised as an innovative, collaborative approach between ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) and Speech Language Therapy (SLT) which has improved patient experience and outcomes. It was commended for its work offering a quality, holistic, patient centred approach to the Multi-Disciplinary Team management of swallowing disorders with shared leadership in a cost effective and evidence based framework. It has reduced treatment time from 24 to 5 weeks and improved patient safety and satisfaction.

The Swallow disorder clinic is led by Mr Paul Kirkland ENT Consultant and Anita Smith Consultant Speech and Language Therapist. It was recognised earlier this year at the Advancing Healthcare Awards with the Advancing Practice Award for Collaborative Work.
