Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd visited the Audiology Department based at Park Practice in Hampden Park. He met the audiology team and was shown around the department.
Audiology is all about the science of hearing and balance. The Trust’s Audiology team, of around 30 people, provides hearing assessments and ongoing care and treatment for adults and children with hearing difficulties across East Sussex. It is the only NHS Audiology service in the south east with Improving Quality in Physiological Services (IQIPS) accreditation for both adults and children, demonstrating the highest levels of quality of service, care and safety for patients. The paediatric service provides a Newborn Hearing Screening programme across East Sussex for 5,000 babies each year.
Stephen Lloyd MP said: “It was good to visit our local audiology department based in Park Practice at Hampden Park. I’ve been there a few times over the years because of my own hearing loss, so it was great to be given a more detailed update of what they are doing. The sheer scale is impressive – 5,000 babies screened at birth, 54,000 plus adult and 6,000 children outpatients appointments each year. This is a busy department in our Trust. Best of all only a few months ago they secured their accreditation certificate. This is really important and makes our audiology department the only one in the south east where both NHS paediatric and adult hearing service have such accreditation. A real feather in the Trust’s cap.”
Ian Woodward, Audiology Services Manager for ESHT, said: “It was good to be able to show Stephen Lloyd around our department. He was able to see at first hand the professional dedicated team we have committed to providing high quality care. He is clearly very knowledgeable about hearing loss and hearing aids and understands the many benefits maximising someone’s hearing can have. He was very impressed by our IQIPS accreditation which means patients attending our department can be assured of the highest quality and safe service provided by a highly skilled and fully trained team.”
