MP visits catering and housekeeping teams

Stephen Lloyd MP has visited the catering and housekeeping teams at Eastbourne DGH, to tour the kitchen and see for himself the wide range of patient meals available. He also met some of the housekeeping team who clean the hospital and serve patients with meals and beverages.

There are around 30 people in the catering team at Eastbourne DGH responsible for providing 37,000 meals a month for patients and hospital staff. Patients are offered wide selection of seasonal dishes and along with specially adapted meal choices to reflect different dietary requirements including vegetarian and vegan options as well as ‘light bite’ hot choices. Meals are cooked to order, using the pressure Steamplicity system, and served at the bedside with patient satisfaction ratings regularly in excess of 95%.

The housekeeping team consists of around 130 people who clean around 75,000 meters square of floors each day, the equitant of 11 football pitches. They help the Trust comply with national cleaning standards as well as serving meals and refreshments to patients.

Stephen Lloyd MP said: “I really enjoyed visiting the cleaning and catering elements at the DGH. The staff in both areas plays an incredibly important role in the health and well-being of our local hospital and I was determined to visit them to show my appreciation for what they do. It was a fascinating experience and I was very impressed.”
