Local MP meets Friends of Eastbourne Hospital

Local MP Stephen Lloyd has visited some of the trustees and volunteers of the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital, to learn more about their fundraising work and the support they give to the hospital.

The Friends of Eastbourne Hospital raise money to buy equipment to help patients and staff at Eastbourne DGH. Since their formation in 1948, they have raised over £18 million, of which £3 million has been raised in the last four years. Recent significant projects have included the purchase of two CT scanners and a De Vinci Surgical Robot. The latest project is to raise £500,000 for equipment for the new urology investigation suite.

Stephen Lloyd MP said: “I’ve long been a fan of the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital for their amazing fundraising efforts over many years. Equally the amount of work they actually do within our hospital; from running the shop, manning the trollies taking sandwiches and treats around to both staff and patients, to our brilliant florists. Well done all. I appreciate hugely the wonderful support you give to the DGH. Thank you.”

Harry Walmsley, Chair of the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital said: “We welcomed this opportunity to explain to Stephen Lloyd about the varied fundraising events we hold throughout the year and varied work our volunteers do to support the hospital. We have 1,800 members and would encourage other local people to get involved with the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital. But most of all, everything we do to fund new equipment is only possible thanks to the generosity of the local community and those who give their time to help.”
