Our spotlight feature highlights different colleagues roles within the trust and what they mean to them.
How would you describe what you do if you were explaining it to someone who doesn’t work at the NHS?
As a clinical scientist, I am involved with the diagnosis and treatment of known or suspected heart disease. We use a variety of tests such as heart scans (echocardiograms), 12-lead ECGs and heart monitors. We also have a role in performing coronary angiography/angioplasties and pacing. We all work closely as a team in our patient-facing roles but also regularly interact with other health and professional disciplinaries.
What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of my job is meeting the wonderful patients who come through the door. For many, it can be a daunting time and if I can provide comfort or reassurance in any way, that is the most rewarding part for me.
Tell us about a funny time or experience you’ve had at work.
My identical twin also works in the cardiology department, and when we visit the wards together, we sometimes give patients a little surprise! It’s wonderful working together, and I love that we share the same passion for healthcare sciences.
What made you want to work for the trust?
I began my NHS journey in cardiology administration after completing my undergraduate degree. My interest in cardiac physiology grew, leading me to pursue a master’s in clinical Science specialising in cardiology. After three years of study, I was honoured to secure a role as a clinical scientist in cardiology. I’ve now been with the trust for eight years, working with a fantastic and supportive team in a great environment.
What do the trust values mean to you?
I believe in treating others with the same care and compassion I would hope to receive. When I think of families I always hope that mine would be looked after just as well as I strive to care for others. I also love working with my team, we each bring something unique, creating a supportive and positive workplace, which is essential for both our wellbeing and providing the best care for our patients.
