Congratulations to our NHS East Sussex Choir!

The NHS Choir is a joint wellbeing initiative between East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and Kent Community Health. The choir entered the Hastings Festival in March in the community choir category, and came joint second!

We spoke to Jacquie and Jenny who attend the choir and performed on the night.

“It was such a great evening,” said Jacquie. “For some of us, it was the first time performing on the stage and we were so proud when we came second!”

Singing provides excellent stress relief, as it releases endorphins and lowers cortisol. It’s also a great way of spending some time being mindful and escaping the hustle and bustle of the day.

“Focusing on the music and harmonies is grounding and meditative,” continues Jacquie. “For me, being in the choir is about having fun in a relaxed atmosphere with great people.”

The group meet every Thursday in alternate locations. It’s free and new members are always welcome – they group are particularly on the look out for more male members.

“I joined the choir for my own personal wellbeing,” says Jenny. “It has honestly been the best experience ever. I love the group and it gives me so much joy.”

There are no auditions and no requirement to read music and although the choir is on a high from their recent win, there is no pressure to take part in any performances.

“I look forward to Thursdays and singing and laughing together,” says Jacquie. “It’s been a great stress reliever for me and such a mindful hour and a half. I’ve noticed I always sleep better on a Thursday night too!”
