Monday 5 May marked International Day of the Midwife, and to celebrate we’re taking a moment to reflect on the invaluable contributions of midwives.
Preparing women and their families for the delivery of new life puts midwives and other maternity colleagues at the very heart of every stage of pregnancy, labour and the early postnatal period.
Midwives are the steady hands guiding families through some of life’s most important moments. Watch these videos to meet Amina, Frankie and Gabby, trainee midwives who are currently completing the third year of their training, and George and Abby who are completing midwifery apprenticeships.
There are many routes into maternity and neonatal care, including midwife, maternity support worker and neonatal nurse, including traditional university degrees and apprenticeships as mentioned above. Each offers a dynamic way of learning and because NHS training is recognised as some of the best in the world, there really is no limit to where it could take you.
The Sussex Local Maternity and Neonatal System has teamed up with colleagues working in hospitals across Sussex to produce a film which highlights all these different and vital roles. Find out more about local maternity careers.
