Celebrating our Operating Department Practitioners

Our Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) recently celebrated Operating Department Practitioners Day, to highlight the crucial role they have in patient care, often working behind the scenes in surgery, anaesthetics, recovery and other out of area services.

ODPs are highly skilled professionals who ensure patients receive safe and effective care during surgical procedures. Their expertise in managing anaesthesia, assisting in surgery, supporting post-operative recovery and being part of the cardiac arrest team, makes them invaluable members of healthcare teams.

Christine Card, Deputy Lead Practitioner for Anaesthetics, Night Team and Clinical Orderlies said: “By celebrating ODPs, we acknowledge their dedication, enhance public awareness of their contributions, and inspire future generations to join this vital profession.

“It also helps to boost morale and encourages continued excellence in patient care. Whether through appreciation events, awards, or simply recognising their hard work, showing gratitude for ODPs fosters a positive and supportive healthcare environment.

“We had a busy but great ODP day. Although we were faced with a challenge, we all pulled together as a group and supported each other, as we always do.

“Catherine had a wonderful cake made, Chris wrote a poem for everyone, and I made all the ODP’s some goodie bags and did a great photo board of photos taken along the way. We had some treats and somehow managed to get together at the end of the day for some cake and photos.”

Congratulations and thank you to our brilliant ODPs.
