Tomorrow (Friday 20 June) we will celebrate #Red4Research Day, which credits all those who take part in, support and deliver research – shining a spotlight on individuals and teams across the trust who are driving innovation in healthcare through their commitment to research.

Jo-Anne Taylor Head of Research and Dr Justin Harris Deputy Chief Medical Officer
We were delighted to take part in the celebrations and highlight just some of the ground breaking research that happens here. Research is a key trust priority and is at the heart of progress. By embedding clinical research into our everyday care we can ensure that our patients benefit from the latest medical advances, improving care quality and ultimately saving lives.

Vikki Carruth, Chief Nurse and Director of Infection Prevention and Control
Last year was a remarkable year for clinical research at the trust, with more than 3,600 patients recruited to clinical trials – setting a record for our organisation.

Shelley Baumber, Clinical Research Practitioner
From advancing anaesthetic care by improving the care of patients who are having an operation on their chest or abdomen comparing two different drug treatments, to the ABOVE trial, which aims to find out if a stitch placed vaginally or abdominally is better in those who have had a preterm birth (delivery before 37 weeks of pregnancy) or mid-trimester loss (a loss between 14 and 24 weeks of pregnancy) after a previous caesarean section in labour.

Andrew Strevens – Chief Finance Officer
Dr Justin Harris, Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Consultant Radiologist, commented, “Clinical research is the way we improve the detection, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases and it improves the lives of patients across our region. Clinical research is the backbone of healthcare and we are very fortunate to have such strong research engagement with our teams.”
