We’re proud to share that we have once again been formally recognised as a Disability Confident Leader – the highest level of the Government’s Disability Confident scheme.
Our Leader reaccreditation is valid until July 2028, following a rigorous self-assessment and independent external validation.
What is Disability Confident?
The Government’s Disability Confident scheme helps employers think differently about disability and take action to improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people.
As a Level 3 Leader, we are not only recognised for our inclusive practices – we are also actively helping other employers to become Disability Confident too.
What we’ve achieved
Over the past three years, our Workforce Inclusion team and Disability Networks have led vital work to improve the experiences of colleagues with disabilities and long-term conditions, including:
- A streamlined and collaborative reasonable adjustments process, which has been shared with other trusts
- Increasing the percentage of staff satisfied with adjustments to 78%
- The creation of our Neurodiversity Network
What reaccreditation means
This reaccreditation reaffirms our commitment to:
✔ Providing a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process
✔ Supporting existing employees to remain in work
✔ Educating and upskilling managers on disability inclusion
✔ Encouraging open conversations about disability and health
✔ Acting as a system leader across Sussex to share good practice
Jenny Darwood, Director of People, said: “Being recognised again as a Disability Confident Leader demonstrates our continued progress – but it also reminds us of our responsibility to keep moving forward. We’re committed to making our trust a place where all colleagues feel seen, heard and supported.”
