From Kipling Ward to the three Peaks

A team of children’s nurses and doctors from Kipling Ward at Conquest Hospital are taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge, on Saturday 18 July, to raise money to improve the outdoor space for children and teenagers on their ward.

Kipling ward team

The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis, 1,344m), England (Scafell Pike, 978m), and Wales (Snowdon, 1,085m) in under 24 hours. It includes 26 miles of hiking, 2,926m of ascent, and 460 miles of driving.

Every day the team care for young people facing illness, long hospital stays, and significant challenges. Time outside, fresh air, movement and a space that feels normal, can make a huge difference to their mental wellbeing, recovery, and overall hospital experience.

Unfortunately, the current outdoor area is limited and not always suitable for the wide age range the team care for. With your support, they hope to transform it into a safe, welcoming, and therapeutic space where children and teenagers can:

  • Take a break from the clinical environment
  • Spend time with family
  • Play, relax, or simply get some fresh air
  • Feel like children again, even while in hospital

All donations are made securely through JustGiving and go to the East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust Charitable fund. Monies raised will be used specifically to support improvements to the outdoor space for children and young people on Kipling Ward.
