The Orthoptic Department is delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Louise Rossiter, who has been awarded the Rising Star Award by the British and Irish Orthoptic Society (BIOS).

She is a valued member of the Orthoptic team, always willing to support colleagues and committed to delivering the highest standards of care to every patient she encounters. Her compassionate approach, professionalism and drive to continually improve, make her a true asset to both the department and the wider Trust.
“In addition to her clinical work, Louise is an inspiring role model for undergraduate Orthoptic students undertaking placements within the department. She generously shares her knowledge and experience, encouraging and supporting the next generation of orthoptists. Her passion for the profession is infectious, and she is widely admired by students and colleagues alike.
“Louise is also dedicated to her own professional development and actively seeks opportunities to enhance her knowledge and skills. She is strongly engaged in clinical audit and service improvement work, demonstrating a commitment to ensuring that patients receive evidence-based, high-quality care.
“One of her recent audit projects, assessing visual acuity outcomes and treat-and-extend protocols for intravitreal injections, has received international recognition and will be presented at the Global Retina Specialist Summit in Florence, Italy, in December 2026.
“This achievement highlights not only the quality of her work but also her contribution to advancing clinical practice beyond our organisation.
