The band spent time on the wards entertaining patients with a lively selection of songs, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere throughout the afternoon.
The impact of the visit was immediate. One patient living with dementia was so captivated by the music that they got up and danced along, clearly enjoying every moment and telling staff they did not want the music to stop.
The performance also created a touching moment for one family. A relative shared that it was the first time she had seen her husband smile in weeks and thanked the musicians for bringing such joy during what had been a difficult time.
Music can play an important role in supporting people living with dementia by stimulating memories, encouraging social interaction and promoting emotional wellbeing. Experiences such as this demonstrate how meaningful activities can enhance the hospital experience for patients and their loved ones.
The visit was organised as part of activities to mark World Alzheimer’s Month and highlights the positive impact that local community groups can have within healthcare settings.
The Dementia Care Team would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Printer Playhouse Ukulele Army for giving their time and helping to create such memorable moments for patients, relatives and staff.
