A team of dedicated nurses from Kipling Ward, alongside a member of the pharmacy team, have raised an incredible £11,386 after completing the National Three Peaks Challenge to support improvements for children and young people receiving care on the ward.

The challenge took place on 18 July 2026 and saw the team climb the three highest peaks in the UK: Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales. Covering a total of 23 miles of hiking, the challenge tested their endurance, teamwork and determination.
The group were rewarded with glorious weather throughout the event, helping them successfully complete the demanding challenge and exceed their fundraising expectations.
The money raised will be used to renovate the outdoor area on Kipling Ward, creating a more welcoming and therapeutic space for the children and young people cared for by the team.
The current outdoor space has not been fit for purpose for some time and, with limited funding available, improvements have not been possible without fundraising support.
The team said: “We wanted to do something that would make a real difference for the children and young people we care for on Kipling Ward. Completing the National Three Peaks Challenge was tough, but knowing that the money raised will help transform our outdoor space made every step worthwhile.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated and supported us along the way.”
The team also paid tribute to the colleagues and friends who helped make the challenge possible.
As well as driving more than 460 miles between the three mountains, supporters kept the team fed and watered throughout the challenge and provided encouragement every step of the way.
The group said: “We definitely couldn’t have done it without them. Their support, encouragement and positivity kept us going throughout the challenge.”
Work is now being planned to transform the outdoor area, helping create a space where children and young people can relax, play and benefit from being outdoors during their time on the ward.
