To mark National T Levels Week, we’re shining a light on Louis Jacinto, a T Level Student studying Health, who is currently on placement at the trust, spending time at both the Jubliee Eye Suite and Berwick Ward.
How would you describe what you do if you were explaining it to someone who doesn’t work at the NHS:
I help the Clinical Support Workers make beds on the ward and carry out daily observations i.e blood pressure, oxygen levels, taking the patients temperature and heart rate. Alongside this, I chat with patients, making sure they are stable and happy.
The favourite part of my job is:
I have enjoyed talking to the different patients, hearing their interesting stories from their life and jobs they have previously done.
Tell us about an interesting, funny or rewarding experience you’ve had at work:
A real highlight for me was being able to go into theatre and watching the surgeons carry out cataract surgery.
What do the trust values mean to you:
To me, Kindness means helping and supporting others whenever I can. Inclusivity means making sure everyone feels welcome and respected, regardless of who they are or where they come from. Integrity means being honest, trustworthy, and acting with the best intentions when working with and supporting others.
What are T Levels?
T levels are two-year qualifications for 16 to 19 year olds, equivalent to three A levels, that combine class room learning with industry placement, giving students the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills in an education setting to the work place.
How can I support at T-Level placement?
Currently the trust has posted T-level placements in Finance, Estates & Facilities, Digital, Integrated Education as well as Clinical areas. To explore the benefits of hosting a T-Level student, contact esh-tr.workexperience@nhs.net to discuss your options.
