Mr Matthew Ricks is a specialist fellowship trained Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the Shoulder, Elbow and Hand. Practicing across Eastbourne and Hastings hospitals providing care for Sussex. Mr Ricks specialises in the comprehensive management of all conditions affecting the shoulder, Elbow and Hand.
With international fellowships in France, Australia and the UK he received extensive training in surgical best practice, while consistently keeping apace with the latest surgical techniques. Originally qualifying from St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospital in 2007 he underwent specialist training in the Wessex region. Following his surgical training he carried out fellowships in Melbourne Australia, Nice France and Wrightington UK. Following a fellowship in Wrightington covering Shoulder, Elbow and Hands he was appointed a consultant at the unit. After 4 years of consultancy at the unit the opportunity arose to move back to Sussex where he is originally from and family are. He then took up a Consultancy at East Sussex Healthcare Trust.
As a Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder, Elbow and Hand Surgeon at East Sussex Healthcare Trust, Mr Ricks handles complex cases of the Upper Limb. Mr Ricks has a first class honours BSc and two Masters degrees in the area of Orthopaedics. Having been awarded the BESS travelling shoulder fellowship and the Watanabe Travelling fellowship he was able to visit leading surgeons around the world developing an interest in Arthroscopic and Arthroplasty surgery. Mr Ricks has held committee positions in the European Shoulder and Elbow society and the British Hand society.
