The Judy Beard Day Unit is a haematology/oncology unit that is open Monday to Saturday:  8am until 6pm (except bank holidays).

The team support patients through Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) and any supportive treatments, in a safe, positive and compassionate environment, in safety and with respect and dignity.

We aim to support symptom control to minimise the impact on your quality of life throughout your treatment.

Our treatments include:

Administration of chemotherapy and Immunotherapy (Intravenous and oral)

Administration of supportive therapies

Administration of blood products

Central line placements

Care of Central lines

Accordion

Booking your first appointment

After seeing your consultant, a referral to our unit will be made and you will be asked to book your pre-treatment blood tests. We then ask that you contact the unit three days after this to be given your appointment dates.

What to bring with you

Please feel free to bring anything with you that will help pass the time – books, magazines, mobile phone, tablet or laptop – plug sockets are available.

Due to the nature of our work there may be times when there is a delay in receiving your treatment causing your time in our department to lengthen. We will endeavour to keep this to a minimum and apologise for any delays.

Free car parking

Patients receiving active Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) are entitled to a free parking permit which your nurse will give you.

This can be used at both Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne District General Hospital.

Food and drink

Hot and cold drinks are available throughout the day, which you can help yourself to. A light lunch consisting of sandwiches etc. is available to patients only.

Please feel free to bring in alternatives with you. It is important you eat and drink as usual whilst having treatment.
