Radioactive Iodine (RAI) treatment involves using Radioactive iodine to treat thyroid disorders, most commonly hyperthyroidism, goitres and thyroid cancer and has been used since the 1940s.

Sathis Kumar, Consultant Endocrinologist said: “Providing a Radioactive iodine treatment service for benign thyroid diseases locally, is much more convenient for our patients and also is more cost effective for local health services”.

Maria Ravelo, Senior Endocrine Specialist Nurse said: “Providing this service locally means that patients have reduced travel and usage of public transport which are vital restrictions after the treatment. It will also promote continuity of care for our patients which should provide a positive impact on the quality of care they receive.”
