Grand Round – Calling all Consultants and Junior Doctors.

Conquest Education Centre – 10th October 2017, lunch from 12.30pm / Presentation 1.15pm – 2.15pm

EDGH Education Centre – 27th November 2017, lunch from 12.30pm / Presentation 1.00pm – 2.00pm

Speakers:

Dr John Geater, MBE – International Consultant with PRIME Partnerships in International Medical Education

Professor Richard Vincent, Professor Emeritus of Cardiology

Dr Shakil Malik, Senior Clinical Director of Sussex Partnership Trust

Rationale:

We are aware that there is a trend developing around burnout and reduced resilience, occurring between core and higher speciality training. The recent ‘Developing People, Improving Care NHS Leadership Strategy’ talks about compassion in the workplace – in keeping with our ESHT values

The Royal College of Physicians’ (RCP) report comprehensively the sentiment amongst their junior doctor membership in 2016, in which 80% felt excessive stress because of their job

It is vital we provide on-going support for all staff and value the contribution our clinicians make. The Masterclass will focus on how we avoid burnout and remain compassionate towards ourselves, colleagues and our patients

Doctor Toolbox

Calling all Junior Doctors – to get involved to improve site for benefit of your cohort and future trainees

Dr Toolbox is a website set up and run by junior doctors that provides up-to-date information relevant to other junior doctors within their trust. The site has been created to help doctors retain local hospital knowledge and pass it on to their successors, so that they can hit the ground running, thereby, improving efficiency and patient safety

For further information on Doctors Toolbox please go directly to http://www.stfs.org.uk/dr-toolbox to access the site password read access only: ‘tourism 4’

The site lets you access information such as:

  • Bleep numbers of doctors in the hospital both during the week and out of hours
  • Extension numbers for wards, secretaries and other sites
  • Commonly used reference guides specific to the hospital, downloadable to your computer and mobile
  • How to make speciality referrals within the hospital
  • How to request specific investigations within the hospital
  • Handover guides for firms
  • A resource for teaching and post graduate medical education
