GRE is short for Glycopeptide resistant Enterococcus. Enterococcus is a bacteria which is carried harmlessly in the gut. GRE is one type ofEnterococcus which is resistant to the Glycopeptide (vancomycin, teicoplanin) type of antibiotics.
