We specialise in the assessment and management of children’s hearing for children aged 0 to 18 years, or up to 25 years for young people with SEND.
We are committed to the continuous improvement of our service, care and safety of our patients which has been recognised by achieving IQIPs accreditation.
About your appointment
We offer appointments at the following locations:
Conquest Hospital
Eastbourne Park Primary Care Centre
Heathfield Community Centre
Your child’s appointment will take place in a soundproof or sound treated room.
Assessment appointments will vary in length depending on your child’s age and needs.
These may include:
Visual reinforcement audiometry: listening to sounds from a speaker or through earphones. When your child hears the sound, they will turn their head towards a puppet to ‘reward’ their response
Play audiometry: listening to sounds through earphones completing a task with a toy(s) when a sound is heard
Pure tone audiometry: Older children will wear headphones and press a button each time a sound is heard
Further information can be found on the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS)
Sometimes we may need to see your child more than once to complete testing. To minimise noise and distraction during testing, we ask that you do not bring any other children to the appointment.
If you do not have childcare for other children, you may bring an accompanying adult to sit with them in the waiting area.
What happens after the appointment?
Your audiologist will spend time after the assessment explaining the results and will agree the next steps with you. This could include discharging your child from our service, further assessments, onward referral or fitting hearing aids.
Your audiologist will be available to answer any questions you may have both during and after the appointment.
Ear wax removal
If you have concerns about ear wax, we recommend seeing your GP.
