Supported internships

Our supported internships are for young adults with a learning disability or autism spectrum condition.

We have offered a supported internship programme with DFN Project SEARCH since 2014. The programme provides young adults with structured in-work job coaching to help you make a positive transition from education into the world of work and creating a more inclusive workforce where talent is recognised, opportunities are accessible, and aspirations become achievements.

The DFN Project SEARCH model provides a structured supported internship programme designed to equip young adults with disabilities with the skills, confidence and experience needed for meaningful long-term employment.

To participate in the scheme you must be aged 16-24 with an Education, Health and Care Plan or equivalent. You will remain enrolled at East Sussex College throughout the internship, but you will be based full-time at our hospitals. During the programme, you’ll receive up to 800 hours of structured on-the-job learning, supported by a tutor coordinator, job coaches, managers and mentors. To help you develop a broad range of skills, you’ll complete three 10-week rotations in different roles while you’re with us.

If a supported internship sounds like the right fit for you, email Stacey Beard at East Sussex College for more information.

DFN Project SEARCH is a national charity that enables young adults with a learning disability or autism spectrum condition to secure meaningful permanent employment. Find out more and watch videos of interns in action on the Project SEARCH website.
