We are a smoke free trust.

Smoking, vaping and the use of e-cigarettes are not permitted anywhere on Trust premises, including:

  • Hospital buildings
  • Entrances and grounds
  • Outdoor areas and car parks
  • Trust-owned vehicles

Smoking is also prohibited in private vehicles while on Trust property.

This policy applies to all patients, visitors, staff, volunteers and contractors. Our smoke-free approach helps protect the health and wellbeing of everyone who uses and works in our services.

If you smoke and are coming to hospital
We know that smoking is the single greatest cause of preventable ill health. As a healthcare provider we have a responsibility to promote healthy lifestyles, reduce smoking prevalence and protect everyone from the dangers of second-hand smoke.

We understand that not smoking during your visit or stay may feel challenging. However, smoking breaks are not permitted during your time on the trust premises.

Support is available to help you manage nicotine cravings while you are in hospital. Please speak to a member of staff if you would like advice or treatment.

If you wish to smoke or vape, you must leave the trust premises completely.

Support for patients and staff who want to quit smoking
We understand that going without smoking during a hospital visit or stay can be difficult. However, smoking breaks are not permitted while you are on the trust premises.

If you smoke or vape, you must leave the trust property completely before doing so.

Support is available to help manage nicotine cravings during your stay. Please speak to a member of staff if you would like advice, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), or other support.

Support to Stop Smoking
Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health, and it’s never too late to quit.

As part of your care, you may be asked about your smoking history so we can provide the most appropriate support and treatment. Patients who would like help to stop smoking can be referred to our stop smoking nurse and offered NRT during their hospital stay or treatment.

Additional support is available through community stop smoking services and GP practices. People who access specialist stop smoking support are significantly more likely to quit successfully.
