Conquest Critical Care Unit comprises 6 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and 5 High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds in two separate but adjacent units. The staff work in both units and function as one team on a daily basis.
Over 80 experienced staff; doctors, nurses and allied health professionals provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We admit around 600 patients each year.
An experienced critical care nurse will provide specialist care for each patient who has a serious illness, usually on a one to one ratio.
The patients here are less dependent than patients in the Intensive Care Unit but still require close monitoring. Usually one experienced critical care nurse will care for two patients in HDU.
