BadgerNet

The electronic Maternity Notes system

Our Maternity Service uses an electronic Maternity Notes system called ‘BadgerNet’.

The ‘BadgerNet’ system replaces handheld paper notes and provides an online portal and an app where you can access your maternity records via the internet through your PC, tablet device or mobile phone.

The information that you view is generated in real-time from the hospital-based maternity system, using details entered by your midwife or other health professionals involved in your care.

This allows you to have more convenient and timely access to key information and also ensures that your choices on what you want to happen at each stage of your pregnancy are clearly captured so all those caring for you can see them.

What are the benefits?

There are a number of benefits to using ‘BadgetNet’ Maternity Notes, rather than paper notes, such as:

  • Information such as appointment dates and test results can be shared with you directly from the maternity system
  • Records can be easily updated at each maternity visit or appointment and can be viewed by you at any time during your pregnancy or after your baby is born
  • Midwives do not have to double enter data onto paper handheld notes and an internal system
  • Greater security/privacy as only those with the correct login details are able to access your notes

You can also add information

You can add information such as:

  • Details about you, such as your occupation and any allergies
  • Your plans and preferences for your care before, during and after your birth
  • Feedback regarding your antenatal care, labour and birth experiences

How secure is the system?

All information is held securely and cannot be accessed without the correct login details (similar to internet banking).

How do I get access and how do I create an account?

When you self-refer in to our Maternity service by using our online referral form, you will receive an email that gives information about ‘BadgerNet’ Maternity Notes and how to download the BadgerNet app. A midwife or maternity support worker will be in touch with you before you first scan to arrange your first booking appointment and to give you a login for the Maternity Notes app.

This is a QR code that you may like to use to download the Badger notes app in preparation before your first contact with a maternity staff member.

Frequently asked questions

On your smartphone or tablet you can download the app from the AppStore or Google Play, or on a PC you can use the web version:

  • Ensure you are clicking on Create / Register account first
  • If you are trying to register within 15 minutes of being given your passphrase, there may be a network delay. Please try again later in the day
  • Check that you’ve received a Badger Notes email invitation – if you haven’t, this might indicate that your email address has been recorded incorrectly, please contact esht.maternitynotessupport@nhs.net to check this
  • If you did receive an email invitation, there may be a problem with the passphrase you were given, please contact your midwife or the esht.maternitynotessupport@nhs.net to check this.

This message means the system has found an existing account that uses the email address you entered. This could be because:

  • You used the Maternity Notes app for a previous pregnancy (even if this was many years ago)
  • You used the Baby Diary app in the past
  • You were assigned friends and family access to the Baby Diary app in the past

If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it – see question below. If you still cannot access your account, please contact your midwife or esht.maternitynotessupport@nhs.net

There is a “Forgotten password” link on the log in page of your Badger notes. This needs to be done via the web browser:

Go to the Badger Notes website:

and log in. Select “profile” and go to “edit your account”. You will be able to change the mobile number on your existing account. Once this is updated, you will be able to log into the app and receive a verification code.

Log in using your existing password and pull out the profile menu using the menu button. You can then select “Add a care record”.

The personal information you see in Badger Notes is from your electronic medical record. Please contact your midwife or esht.maternitynotessupport@nhs.net if you are concerned that any information is incorrect or confusing.

Please make a note of where in the app/web the data is incorrect, for example, the name of the report that the information appears in and exactly what the incorrect entry says, this will help us to find the source of the issue.

To begin with, you will only see the “Welcome” report. As your pregnancy progresses and you attend appointments, additional reports will become available.

If you don’t have online access or don’t want to use the app, please let your midwife know when they call you to arrange your first appointment. We will then let you know what other options are available.
