NHS 70th – Maternity Home 9 Upperton Road

This maternity home was situated in Upperton Road, Eastbourne.

It opened in 1920. In 1930 248 cases were admitted which accounted for 35 percent of the total births in the Borough of Eastbourne. The building has been demolished and a block of flats now sits on the site.

Prime Minister Theresa May was born at this maternity home, who’s father the Rev Hubert Brasier was the Chaplin for the All Saints Hospital and Chapel in the 1950s.
