Travelling to our hospitals

Our hospitals are accessible by a variety of public transport options and where possible, we would always request members of the public try and make full use of these transport options or use other environmentally friendly alternatives.

Non-emergency patient transport

The non-emergency patient transport service provides transport for patients who have a medical reason for not being able to travel by another method. Find out more.

Help with travel costs

If you are referred to our hospitals for NHS specialist treatment or diagnostic tests by your doctor, dentist or other health professional, you may be able to claim a refund of reasonable travel costs under the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS).

You should take your travel receipts, appointment letter or card, and proof that you are receiving one of the qualifying benefits to the cashier’s office to claim your travel costs:

Car parking charges

There are charges for parking at Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne DGH only. The main car parks at these hospitals are pay-on-foot, which means you have to pay for your parking as you leave the hospital at the payment machines located just outside the entrance at Conquest Hospital and in the main car park at Eastbourne DGH, and the emergency departments.

Some of the smaller car parks at Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne DGH are pay-and-display. Ticket machines are located in these car parks.

Our other sites also have some on-site car parking, for which there are no charges, but spaces may be limited. If you park in the surrounding public roads, please ensure you park courteously, ensuring you do not block any residents driveways or access areas.

The following parking charges apply:
0 minutes up to 30 minutes – Free 4 hours up to 5 hours – £8.10
From 30 minutes up to 1 hour – £1.80 5 hours up to 6 hours – £9.70
1 hour up to 2 hours – £3.40 6 hours up to 12 hours – £11.30
2 hours up to 3 hours – £5.00 12 hours up to 24 hours – £17.50
3 hours up to 4 hours – £6.70 Lost tickets - £17.50 per day (24 hours)
Discounted tickets are available from the car park office in the main car park:
3 day - £8.90
5 day – £22.10 14 day – £41.20
7 day – £29.30 30 day – £50.00
Exemptions currently apply to:
  • Blue badge holders – Disabled people: holders of a valid Blue Badge attending one of our hospitals as a patient or visitor, or for a disabled person employed by the Trust receive free parking for the duration of their attendance at, or visit to, our hospitals.
  • Patients attending cancer/oncology clinics and their relatives (national MacMillan guidelines)
  • End of Life Care relatives (bereavement)
  • Frequent outpatient attenders: free parking will be provided to people attending outpatients who attend hospital for an appointment at least three times within a month and for an overall period of at least three months. A ‘month’ is defined as a period of 30 days. Patients should bring their appointment card/letters and present these to the site Parking Office.
  • Parents of sick children staying overnight: this is for a parent or guardian of a child or young person, under 18 years of age, who is admitted as an inpatient to hospital overnight. They will receive free parking between the hours of 7.30pm and 8am while visiting the child. This would apply to a maximum of two vehicles. Parents should visit the site Parking Office to claim this exemption.

Registered disabled blue badge holders

Holders of a valid Blue Badge attending one of our hospitals as a patient or visitor, or for a disabled person employed by the Trust receive free parking for the duration of their attendance at, or visit to, our hospitals.

Blue badge holders can also park in our pay-on-foot car parks free of charge by taking their blue badge and car park entry ticket to the Car Park kiosks before they exit the car park, so they can be validated.

We have provided designated blue badge parking bays close to the hospital entrances.
