Baird Ward is a 28 bedded mixed Acute Medical/Respiratory ward.
The ward admits male and female patients of all ages who are suffering from any acute medical/respiratory condition, such as sepsis, substance abuse, asthma, end stage lung disease (lung cancer, COPD).
The ward has strong links with the Hospital Intervention Team and also the palliative care team, to expedite a rapid discharge. Most patients are discharged home. The aim is to facilitate a rapid turnover of patients who require a short admission into hospital for treatment or diagnosis.
Patients who have been identified as being suitable for admission to the ward but subsequently need a longer hospital admission may be transferred to other wards, for specialist treatment or dementia care.
Baird Ward is on Level 2 (please see map).
