The Acute Medical Unit provides a first line medical assessment, investigation and treatment for patients over the age of 16 years.
Patients are referred from GP, the Emergency Department and community services. Patients are assessed and discharged within 24 hours to the most appropriate location.
The Unit provides an an out-of-hours and weekend ambulatory clinic for people on warfarin until they are within a therapeutic range, when they then attend the anti-coagulation clinic.
The Unit also has out-of-hours and weekend day case patients attending who require blood transfusions or IV antibiotic therapy.
