Eastbourne Midwifery Unit (EMU) is run by a group of core staff midwives and Midwifery Support Workers (MSW’s). The unit operates 24/7 for low risk mothers.

It has two main birthing rooms set up, one of which includes a birthing pool, two postnatal rooms which are en-suite for women to be transferred into after they have given birth to receive as much support as required. EMU also accepts women from the main acute site once they have given birth and are able to be transfered, to receive extra support if required.

EMU accepts low risk women over 37 weeks. Any women that develops complications during labour with herself or the baby are transferred to the acute unit at Conquest Hospital.
