Video outpatient appointments

Monday to Friday - 8am to 6pm - Saturday - 9am to 12pm

Video consultations are a secure, convenient and cost-effective way to receive medical care without needing to visit the hospital.

They help minimise contact between patients and clinicians while maintaining the quality of care and accessibility for those in remote areas or with busy schedules. Furthermore, they enhance time efficiency and reduce the risk of spreading infectious diseases. We use a secure video platform called Accurx for these consultations.

How video appointments work

If your video consultation is scheduled, you will receive an SMS text message (or email) from ‘NHS No Reply’ with a link to join the consultation. Ensure your mobile phone volume is turned on to hear the invite arrive.

Starting the video call:

Click the link in the text message or email to open Accurx in your browser

Run through technical checks to ensure your microphone and camera work

Your clinician will be waiting for you in the virtual consultation room

What you will need

Device: A charged smartphone, tablet, or computer with a built-in camera and microphone.

Environment: A quiet, well-lit place where you will not be disturbed.

Internet Connection: A reliable internet connection – Wi-Fi is recommended to ensure call quality.

Please note

A one-to-one video call uses approximately 3MB of data per minute, similar to a high-definition FaceTime or Zoom call.

If Wi-Fi is not available and a mobile network is used, Accurx traffic will be charged like any other data traffic on your mobile plan. Any charges for exceeding your data allowances will be in accordance with your agreement with your network provider.

Technical requirements

Accurx is compatible with Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android, and Chrome or Firefox on desktop

It does not work with Internet Explorer

During the consultation

If you experience any technical issues, inform your clinician immediately. The clinician may switch to a telephone call if necessary.

After the consultation

The clinician will discuss options for any further appointments, which may be in-person or via video

You will receive a letter with the outcome of the consultation and any next steps

Feedback is welcome to help improve the service
