Trainees will benefit from excellent exposure to a number of different areas during their time in Urology and will gain ‘on the job’ experience of specific topics covered in the Urology syllabus. Areas covered include:

  • Stone clinic
  • Erectile Dysfunction clinic
  • One stop haematuria clinic

Urology Investigation Suite (UIS)

As mentioned earlier, UIS is a busy out-patient unit with dedicated three clinical/procedure rooms and it is staffed by specialised nurses. Trainees do benefit from the opportunity of carrying out a wide variety of procedure including flexible cystoscopy, prostate biopsy and bladder-pressure studies.

Inpatients

The Consultant of the week carries out a daily teaching ward round with the Registrar of the week and the juniors.

Emergency patients are initially admitted to the Urology Assessment Unit where they are fully assessed and transfer to the main ward if required. Elective patients get admitted on the day of their operations to the dedicated admission ward. Trainees will gain significant experience in managing complex and seriously ill patients on the intensive care unit.
