Urology – Shift Practice and Rota

The Urology department is made up of eight Consultant Urologists, eight Middle Grade Doctors, two Foundation Year Two Doctors, one Core Trainee and Two LAS Core Trainees.

The Consultants and Middle Grade Doctors undertake non resident 1:8 on call work patterns.

The Junior Doctors form part of the Hospital at Night rota, which includes trainees from ENT and Orthopaedics. This is a 1:13 on call full shift work pattern.

ST3+ Speciality Doctor (Middle Grade) Work Pattern

The following is a Middle Grade rota and is based on a 1:8 rolling rota. On week six the Middle Grades are based on the ward covering Reg of the Week (ROW), all clinic’s and theatre attendance activies are cancelled for this week. When on call Monday – Friday the ROW will be the first point of contact, the non resident on call commitments commence from 1700 – 08.00. The on call registrar is well supported by a team of juniors and the on call Consultant at all times

Junior Doctors Hospital at Night (H@N) Work Pattern

The Junior Doctors from Urology, ENT and Orthopaedics all form part of the Hospital at Night rota. This is a 1:13 on call rolling pattern as shown in the example rota below. The work pattern is followed for all three specialities.

Those in Orthopaedics and ENT, when on call during the day Monday – Friday work within their own specialty. Urology Juniiors hold the bleep during these days, the Orthopaedics and ENT doctors then report to Seaford 4 for the remainder of the on call from 1700. All on calls are full shifts, this includes weekends and night shifts.
